Cordless Telephones are no different from other household electrical appliances in that they need power to operate. A DECT handset needs to make frequent communication with the base station to allow immedaite connection in the instance of incoming or outgoing call..
This frequent communication, naturally, requires power (the reason that a cordless phone’s standby time is inversely proportional to its distance from the base station); and as we know all power consumption is both bad for your pocket and the environment. Electricity costs money and incurs pollution in the form of carbon emissions.
Because of this BT have recently put a lot of thought into how they can reduce the environmental impact of cordless phones. They have managed to reduce power consumption by up to a half.
DECT Phones do not take a large amount of power or money to run, but if in every area we try to make savings we will find that there is a huge beneficial effect to both planet and pocket.

BT Domus Quad Review March 11, 2008
It is not often that you find a real bargain online, but in a search for home cordless phones I found the BT Domus Quad. As its name suggests it is a 4 handset digital cordless telephone system.
The manufacturers, BT have a long heritage in cordless phones, having introduced the UK telephone market to the BT Diverse and the BY Synergy DECT phones a decade or so ago.
This latest offering is sleek and stylish, the handsets are finished in a shiny black glass like casing which catches the light beautifully. Hand in hand with this form is an A grade in function. The units deliver an enhanced audio quality and the user immediately is aware of a richer crisper sound quality.
The handsets deliver the expected call transfer and walkie talkie modes with the additional quality of 3 way conferencing.
Further features include : Text Messaging with predictive text, polyphonic ringtones ( nice in a home phone), caller display, digital answermachine and handsfree calling.
