The Elements Digital cordless phone from BT November 17, 2008
The Elements DECT Cordless phone is a welcome addition to the BT Telephone portfolio, it reminded me of some earlier Philips Zenia phones with the base station and the handset/ charger separate items. This set up gives you the freedom to place your main handset in a handy position away from your incoming telephone socket.
The element is also, as its name suggests, suited to eternal environments. The handset carries a torch and carried the International Protection Rating of IP54 which means that the model is safe in both dusty and rainy conditions. The BT Phone also comes with an outdoor range of up to 1 km ( that is in ideal conditions) which also makes the unit particularly suitable for usage outside.
All in all this rugged and pleasantly designed cordless phone from BT is a great addition to the stable. DECT cordless phones have become the norm in the home and office, but this hansdet promises to deliver a high standard of functionality in outdoor environments.
The telephone has a full feature quota, encompassing SMS texting, a handfree speakerphone option and an auto keypad lock. The phone can be seen at Element BT Phone from Telephones Online.
DECT Cordless Telephones July 14, 2008
DECT Cordless Phones operate on a 2.4Ghz spectrum and have a maximum range of up to 300 meters in a clear line of sight situation whilst operating at more like up to 50 meters in environments where there is some electronic interference or solid boundaries such as walls for the signal to pass through.
The DECT system is built and manufactured according to the DECT European Standards as defined by The European Telecommunications Standards Institute in 1992. Since the initial stipulations of the ETSI committee the legislation has concentrated upon ensuring the interoperabilty of DECT cordless equipment from different manufacturers via the implementation of Generic Access Protocol ( GAP).
The basic operating principles of DECT Cordless Telephony are:
- high capacity structured network access
- network wide mobility
- flexibility
- high spectrum efficiency
- reliable – high quality and secure – radio access
- robustness in hostile radio environments
- speech transmission quality comparable to the wired telephony service
- enabling cost efficient implementations of system components
- allowing for implementation of a wide variety of terminals like e.g. small pocketable handsets
- flexibility towards varying bandwidth needs
The operating principles above have been met and exceeded with every new DECT model from a host of manufacturers including Siemens, Philips and BT ( who produce the majority of cordless phones for the UK). DECT continues to set the standards for PSTN voice communications throughout the UK and Europe whilst Cordless Telephones have become more and more prevalent in homes and offices since ETSI’s legislation was adopted in the early nineties.

BT Verve 500 June 17, 2008
I run a small office from home and spend most of the day on the telephone, advising clients on various issues and have to say that this is just the sort of phone I want on my desktop. I could use it all day.
The BT Verve 500 Twin is a very well designed package. It looks and feels great. And lets face it, ownership of consumer items is the ‘be all and end all’ of life these days. It is a lovely to hold digital cordless phone in an exciting red colour. This is a colour and finish reminiscent of a Smeg© fridge in all its glory; a retro red like the Plymouth Fury in the film Christine.
Naturally the telephone is fully featured with all the, now usual, bells and whistles now included with even the most basic of cordless phones.
Worth noting, though, are the hefty half hour’s recording time on its Answering Machine and its clear colour screen which is still quite legible even in brightly lit conditions.
I have not always been a big fan of BT, but have to admit that I switched back to them recently and have been extremely impressed at their phone and broadband packages and, all in all, I just loved this beautifully designed cordless phone from BT, I am a convert to British Telecom now.

Energy Efficient Cordless Phones March 31, 2008
Cordless Telephones are no different from other household electrical appliances in that they need power to operate. A DECT handset needs to make frequent communication with the base station to allow immedaite connection in the instance of incoming or outgoing call..
This frequent communication, naturally, requires power (the reason that a cordless phone’s standby time is inversely proportional to its distance from the base station); and as we know all power consumption is both bad for your pocket and the environment. Electricity costs money and incurs pollution in the form of carbon emissions.
Because of this BT have recently put a lot of thought into how they can reduce the environmental impact of cordless phones. They have managed to reduce power consumption by up to a half.
DECT Phones do not take a large amount of power or money to run, but if in every area we try to make savings we will find that there is a huge beneficial effect to both planet and pocket.
The new range of greener bt phones includes the latest BT Freestyle Range and the highly energy efficient BT Graphite 1500 shown above.

BT Synergy 4500 Review February 12, 2008
Having tested and used a wide variety of DECT Cordless Phones over the past few years I can report very favourable findings about the BT Synergy 4500.
The telephone is available in a single version as well as the more interesting twin and triple handset options. It being a DECT phone using GAP protocol you will have access to call transfer and intercom facilities between different handsets registered to the same base station – ideal for the family home or small office environment.
The Synergy 4500 also incorporates a digital answering machine with 11.5 minutes of recording time. You are also able to remote acess the messages, by keying in a PIN number, very useful when you are away from home for a while or on holiday.
The above are nowadays considered to be almost to be expected of a cordless phone. However the BT Synergy 4500 also incorporates a SIM Card reader, you can copy your mobile SIM directory to your home phone; SMS text messaging feature and the luxury of personalised ringtones so that you can ( if subscribed to caller display ) set a ringtone per caller – thus easing the necessity of getting up in some instances.
The phone is finished with a stunning titanium exterior which is doubly enhanced by its brilliant blue screen.

Philips Twin Cordless Phone Reviewed February 6, 2008
Philips have a long tradition in electronic excellence and their latest range of cordless phones are no exception.
The first Philips DECT phone to really break into the realms of cordless phone excellence was the Philips Zenia, this was the first cordless phone to have voice dialling. It also boasted a separate base station with a full dialling keypad and speakerphone and recordable ringtones – as this telephone came out last century it is pretty striking.

Featurewise the telephone includes a SIM Card Reader, SMS Messaging, On Hook Dialling, Polyphonic Ringtones, selectable wallpapers and a reliable anwering machine. The screen has a vivid white backlit screen which displays 65,000 colours with superb clarity.
On a par with this Telephone’s great look and screen is the sound quality, speech is crystal clear thanks to the DECT Technology’s use of Philips own ClearVoice HD©
