BT Domus Quad Review March 11, 2008
It is not often that you find a real bargain online, but in a search for home cordless phones I found the BT Domus Quad. As its name suggests it is a 4 handset digital cordless telephone system.
The manufacturers, BT have a long heritage in cordless phones, having introduced the UK telephone market to the BT Diverse and the BY Synergy DECT phones a decade or so ago.
This latest offering is sleek and stylish, the handsets are finished in a shiny black glass like casing which catches the light beautifully. Hand in hand with this form is an A grade in function. The units deliver an enhanced audio quality and the user immediately is aware of a richer crisper sound quality.
The handsets deliver the expected call transfer and walkie talkie modes with the additional quality of 3 way conferencing.
Further features include : Text Messaging with predictive text, polyphonic ringtones ( nice in a home phone), caller display, digital answermachine and handsfree calling.
The telephone can be bought online at BT Domus Quad Digital Cordless Answer Phone and is a very reasonably priced £149.99 for such a well made and good looking telephone.
Two Handsets is Never Enough October 25, 2007
Now it would be quite easy, very easy in fact, to consider the purchase of a digital cordless quad system of telephones rather a sort of telephonic overkill in the home.
I did, initially. It was only that the additional handset did not cost so much extra (I was looking for a trio at first; actually I think, if I remember correctly I started out looking to buy a Twin Handset Telephone System for home as a replacement for a long redundant analog cordless telephone).
The Four handsets, when they arrived, filled me with a great sense of power and anticipation. They needed a good charge – I left them overnight – and the next day ( luckily a Sunday ) I set about the house rigging up my communications systems.
The first one, Handset 1, is kind of limited in its positioning as it goes with the main base station, so that went in the hallway by our phone socket. Handset 2 was easy to place as I had earnestly pined for a handset in the bedroom for many a year.
Hmm, Handset 3 made me ponder…
At first it made me think :
“where am I going to put this“,
then it made me worry :
“where am I going to put Handset 4 if I can’t find a place for 3??”
My house is not overly large, so within a few minutes my fear had subsided as Handset 3 was neatly tucked away in the kitchen. It is rather handy that they come with wall mounting chargers. Thankfully during the screwing process I thought a little and handset 4 was assigned to daughter number 1, who it seems has a lot of incoming calls.
Now I am master of the home switchboard. I answer most calls ( as there is generally a handset near me ) and have even got the hang of call transfer so that I can quite easily put a call through to either of my digital cordless handsets.
I made my selection from Telephones Online who have a range of Quad Telephone Systems for those of us who NEED them.
Multihandset Phone Systems July 27, 2007
With the call clarity of a corded phone and all the features of a mobile phone the latest cordless phones are a truly welcome addition to the home.
Perhaps one of the most overlooked and underused facilities of these new DECT phones is the ability to transfer calls and intercom when you have a GAP ( Generic Access Protocol ) and a multihandset phone system such as shown at the Trio Handsets.
If you have a triple cordless phone set up like this and the base station is in a clear position, you should be able to make the most of the DECT phone’s range
which should be up to 300m in ideal conditions – though realistically 100m is achievable through walls and household impediments..
With a multi, or triple handset system you can place the satellite/ additional handsets around the house or office, constrained only by their necessity for a charger. Say for example you have your main base station ( this is the master unit and is attached to your incoming phone line) in the living room; you can add an additional handset in a bedroom, without requiring an extension telephone line or wiring. An handset in the kitchen will finish of the trio and you have what is, in effect a small system. You can receive calls from any handset registered to the base and transfer calls from handset to handset – even just intercom from handset to handset.
Say you are sitting in the garden and the phone rings, you may well be sunning yourself with a nice tall glass of Pimms© so you may decide not to answer. Your partner answers the call in the kitchen and it being a tantalising offer from a double glazing company, the call can be put through to you without you even having to leave your deckchair.
