Here we look at our top 10 home phones of 2015 – we have selected them based upon their quality, range, sound and distinctive features, in some instances we have chosen a twin or a triple handset system just to add to the mix.
BT 8500 Twin
The BT 8500 Twin is one of our top selling, and favourite phones, it has a nuisance call blocking functionality enhanced by Tru Call Blocker and Call Guardian which allows one to maintain a list of allowed callers and block all others – this gives you complete control over who calls you and when. Further to this the BT 8500 has a built in answer machine and a vibrant colour screen which gives access to an intuitive menu system – as with all the phones in this list the call quality and range are exemplary.
The BT 4500’s inclusion on this list is primarily by virtue of its accessibility features – it carries large, well spaced, clear keys which are tactile and easy to use making it perfect for anyone with visibility or dexterity issues. The built in handset speaker phone means that the user will not need to grip the phone during a conversation also and the 4500 has an inductive coupler so that those with hearing aids can use it without interference. These features all assist in making the use of this cordless home phone accessible to all. The 4500 has a small base station ( which also has large clear buttons ) which means that it takes up little space.
BT 2500 Trio
This triple system with answerphone is notable for its incredible value for DECT phones with a built in power saving eco mode and a beautiful bright blue backlit screen. The phone allows conference calling between handsets as well as call transfer and intercom. At this price this represents a great deal for anyone wishing to install a small system for their home.
The BT 6500 was the grand daddy of nuisance call blocking telephones and has successfully blocked millions of nuisance calls to date. We love its simple operation and the fact that is such a joy to use. It has an in built digital answer phone and , like the 2500, a bright blue screen that can be viewed clearly in any light conditions. The BT 6500 telephones are available in twin, triple and quad sets and are DECT and GAP compatible.
Gigaset C530A Duo
Well, so far, we have looked at BT’s contributions but Gigaset ( formerly a Siemens subsidiary ) have made some of our best selling cordless phones to date. The C530A Duo is a top class digital twin set with a large 1.8 inch full colour TFT screen. The answer machine has a 30 minute recording time and a great feature that allows you to cut in whilst someone is leaving a message – great for filtering calls you may not wish to answer. We also like the handy day/ night switch so that you can mute the phone if you want some peace and quiet. All in all a great phone with superb quality of function and build.
The Gigaset C620A is a great all rounder of a phone and at a superb price. It boasts a beautiful 1.8′ display with illuminated keys and a backlit screen. Our favourite feature is that the handset can double up as a baby monitor though the phone is a great home communications device in its own right with a wonderful selection of polyphonic ringtones and call blocking features.
Panasonic make some of the best DECT home phones and we have selected the KX-TG5521 for its simplicity and price. It is solid to the feel and has a clear blue screen and a digital answer machine. Additional features include a one button eco mode option and call barring. It has a good range of up to 300m and a standby time of 170 hours.
BT 5510 Twin
Another of our home phone bargains – the BT 5510 twin does all that can be expected of a basic home cordless phone. Being a twin set you can transfer calls and intercom between handsets – the handsets each have a built in speaker phone which is a feature that really comes into its own when you are forced to wait on hold for prolonged periods. The handsets share a common telephone directory of up to 250 numbers. The 5510 twin has a small footprint ( does not take up much space ) and has clearly marked large buttons which not only look good, but are easily used by anyone.
BT 8500 Quad
The BT 8500 range of phones, introduced above with the 8500 Twin is the most popular model on the UK market at the moment. The quad set has all the same features as the twin, but is worth considering for its leap in utility. All one has to do is place the base station by the incoming phone line and you have the facility to place a further three handsets strategically anywhere in the home or office that you would like. For example the 8500 quad can power handsets in the living room, kitchen and bedroom as well as an extra one for the garden shed should you wish. This system can also be applied to a small one lined office, allowing call answering from any handset as well as call transfer.
BT 7600 Twin
The BT 7600 as a Twin set provides great value for money but for the price it comes with a load of great functionality such as nuisance call blocking and call screening. The handsets each come with an individually configurable set of polyphonic ringtones and access the answer machine and call management functions as well as the ability to hold multihandset conference calls.
